Come join the Transport Core Engineering team - encompass transporting people from point A to point B. Our goal is to ensure the safest and most reliable transport experience to consumers with greatest convenience, utility and value. We are the tech backbone of Grab’s transport business and we drive innovations through an iterative mindset.

Get to know the Role:

  • Lead a team of backend engineers to deliver highly scalable and available services and immersive experiences for consumers
  • Partner with cross functional leaders across product, design, analytics and data science to build the product roadmap, set customer focussed metrics and robust experiment designs
  • Build a smooth execution plan with the team for securing the delivery of product and engineering roadmap, you are the ultimate owner of the successful delivery and rollout of the roadmap.
  • Set the engineering strategy and engineering excellence metrics and targets for the team, consistently raise the bar across testability, availability, security and code quality for your systems and modules
  • Attract and retain engineering talent, actively mentor and develop engineering talent in the team and across Grab
  • Keep your teams, org structure and staffing aligned with business needs and quickly pivot teams to changing needs

The must haves:

  • A degree in computer science, software engineering, information technology or have similar experience with 5+ years engineering experience on backend technologies and at least 2+ years of leadership experience with teams of 5+ people
  • Enjoy coding, and hands-on. Actively follow latest technologies and bring it to the team.
  • Experience as a successful software development leader in large-scale, highly available micro services. Experience working for a start-up or scale-up is preferred.
  • Possess strong communication skills and can communicate complex technical topics to technical and non-technical audiences effectively. Understand product and have business sense.
  • Demonstrated experience in attracting and retaining key talent. Experience in mentoring senior engineers.
  • A cultural role model with a strong sense of humility and empathy coupled a bias for action and a passionate commitment to engineering excellence
