Job Description

This position plays a leadership role in the software engineering department where you will ensure excellence in all engineering disciplines including data processing, quality assurance, application development, analytics, machine learning, algorithms, and data warehousing.

You will oversee the day-to-day activities of the engineering teams as well as the management and execution of site/software development projects against delivery commitments and project plans. You will also be in charge of maintaining a best-in-class software engineering department.

  • Recruitment / staffing of software engineering team
  • Mentoring, providing technical guidance and staff development of team members
  • Performance appraisal of the team members
  • Point of escalation for the team members
  • Ensure quality and discipline of the software engineering team through the enforcement of coding standards and quality (unit test passing rate and code coverage)
  • Work with Architect team in the formulation of policies and guidelines that are related to software development practices
  • Enforcement of policies and guidelines set out by the Architecture team
  • Provide solution oversight during architecture review conducted with the Architecture team

Education and Experience Required
  • Typically a technical Master’s degree or equivalent experience and a minimum of 6 years of related experience ; or
  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 10 years of experience with responsibilities covering a Solution Architect of a complex system and/or Senior Project Manager

Knowledge and Skills
  • A candidate for this position must also have had at least 7 years of working experience in a senior front end or back end development position, preferably working as Senior front end developer or a Lead back end developer. The candidate should have vast experience in software engineering/development, open source license use/obligations/liabilities, system performance improvement and testing method approaches.
  • Prior responsibilities include that of either a Solution Architect and/or Senior Project Manager of a complex system serving high transactional volume
  • Ability to mentor and lead technical teams to fulfil the objectives of the department
  • Ability to manage vendor software development teams which are both onsite and offsite/offshore
  • Technologically adept and demonstrate outstanding computer skills. You possess an innate understanding of data modeling and SQL for scalability and performance as well as a strong C#, Java, JavaScript, XHTML, CSS, and MVC framework. You should have broad exposure and knowledge of current best-in-class open source frameworks and know how to exploit them in project delivery
  • Expert in different architecture patterns including Microservices, Event-drive architecture, and Service Oriented architecture
  • Past experience in managing multi-site development teams is a bonus
